Sowen Health was founded in 2024 by Samantha Owen, a Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of healthcare experience.
Meet Samantha Owen, DNP, FNP-C, ARNP
Samantha Owen earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice in 2024, building on years of hands-on experience caring for patients across a wide spectrum of backgrounds and health challenges—both chronic and acute. Throughout her clinical journey, one factor consistently stood out: obesity as a key contributor to poor health outcomes and diminished quality of life.
Mission
Samantha founded Sowen Health with a clear mission: to provide compassionate, holistic, and person-centered care for individuals living with obesity. Driven by a deep commitment to improving quality of life and preventing chronic disease, she approaches obesity not as a personal failing, but as the complex, chronic condition it truly is—deserving of thoughtful, evidence-based treatment.
At Sowen Health, we believe every person deserves care that honors their story, supports their goals, and empowers lasting change.
Healthcare background
Samantha began caring for people in their homes 20 years ago, became a registered nurse in 2014, and has spent the last 10 years as a nurse caring for people in the hospital during the scariest and worst days of their lives. She became discouraged with the poor communication between providers and patients, and resolved to find a way to help people learn to take control of their health. After 12 years of college and graduate level education, she earned a doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) from Seattle Pacific University in June 2024.
Samantha has extensive knowledge and experience regarding disease prevention, health self-management education, nutrition, mental health, physical health, and integrative wellness. As a person with type 1 diabetes, she has personally experienced the difficulties of navigating the complexities of the healthcare system, the frustration of insurance coverage, and the mental and emotional burden that accompanies chronic conditions.
She has needed to learn the importance of self-care and balancing a career, education, family, mental well-being and physical well-being. She is excited to share her experience and knowledge to help you learn to take control of your health.
